How to Make Three Refreshing Beer-Tails

By Lauren Nolan of Lake Shore Lady Aug 3, 2017

Hello, Pints and Plates! Lake Shore Lady here, and today we’re going to talk about summer beer-tails! So often I think of beer as something that’s to be enjoyed on game day, but think again this summer! We’re pairing light and bright shandies with our favorite summer flavors for three easy cocktails that even non-beer drinkers will love!

So you’re having a Backyard BBQ or some other sort of summer get-together and you want to provide fun cocktails for your guests? There’s no real need to stock your bar with every alcohol on the planet, as long as you have something delicious and fun for your guests to drink. Grab some Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy and Watermelon Shandy as your base for all three of these drinks, and you’ve got a refreshing party in the works!

Weiss beer with natural lemonade and watermelon flavors

For a colorful and flavorful twist we recommend adding raspberries and basil. They are perfect summer flavors – and you can make two of the drinks with them to give your guests some variety to enjoy throughout the night!!

2 shandies + 2 simple ingredients = 2 delicious beertails! Here’s how you make them:

Berry Basil Beertail
Muddled Raspberries

Basil leaf

6oz Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy

Poolside Paradise
Muddled Raspberries

Muddled Basil

12oz Leinenkugel’s Watermelon Shandy

1 Basil leaf and 1 Raspberry for garnish

And while you’re at it, why not throw one more into the mix? Let’s say someone isn’t a huge basil or raspberry fan (what?!) – you have to have something for them. Luckily, all you need is a lime, coconut water and Leinenkugel’s Watermelon Shandy to make this incredibly refreshing third cocktail.

Lime in the Coco-Melon
3 part Leinenkugel’s Watermelon Shandy

1 part coconut water

Splash of lime juice

Pink Himalayan Salt (for the rim)

And, of course, you can’t serve Watermelon Shandy without watermelon! You can start by adding a small slice as a garnish to the glass. A little piece of watermelon though is never enough. Set out a plate for your guests to enjoy with their drinks. If you want to be a little fancy, you can squeeze some lime on top of the watermelon with a sprinkle of salt… or just eat each slice as is. Yum!

And the last tip from me – enjoy your party!! Sometimes hosting friends can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be! Once everyone is served, grab a cocktail yourself, relax, and enjoy the time with the people you love. Cheers!
