BEER PAIRING
Pair with a Bohemian Pilsner like Pilsner Urquell®
The lightly sweet malt notes and buttery yeast character in Bohemian Pilsner Urquell accentuate the creaminess and tanginess of this twist on classic cheese fondue.
Bring your friends to the table with this unique twist on a classic cheese fondue recipe. The richness of the smooth and creamy cheese is a perfect match for the lightly sweet malt notes in Bohemian Pilsner Urquell. Plus, the spicy and floral Saaz hop aromas complement the Dijon and lemon juice, adding a complexity that’ll wow your crowd.
INGREDIENTS
1 pound Gruyère cheese, shredded
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup Bohemian Pilsner Urquell
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
FOR SERVING:
Vegetables, raw or blanched
Sausage, sliced
Country bread or French baguette, cubed
Pretzels
PREPARATION
STEP 1
Toss cheese with flour. Then, in a medium heavy-bottomed pot, add the Bohemian Pilsner Urquell, mustard, lemon juice and Worcestershire, and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Add cheese as you stir and then cook until it’s completely melted and the mixture is smooth—about 5 to 8 minutes. Transfer the mixture to a fondue pot to set over a flame or serve in a warmed, small, heavy pot.
Serving Suggestion: Provide perfectly paired dippers like raw or blanched vegetables, cooked sliced sausage, cubed country bread or baguette, or your favorite kind of pretzels.
Note: If desired, you can use Swiss, raclette or fontina instead of Gruyère.
